Hunting grounds

eBay and online consignment stores have been my shopping grounds lately.

While browsing, I've noticed the crazyness surrounding the Isabel Marant auctions.
I truly hadn't grasped it till I spoted the much popular and coveted wedge sneakers Bekett/Betty being now counterfeited and sold at insane amounts.

It's typically the case in which I find copy truly despicable especially as it's presented as genuine. Of course I alerted eBay on these fake items, it seems though that not much was done to get rid of these crooks and I'm truly sorry for the persons purchasing 800 € for fake shoes... It's appalling.

I kind of understand now why Marant held back so long to partake in the online business.
Obviously, if she produced more quantity instead of feeding the buzz surrounding her brand, the copy phenomenon maybe wouldn't be that important. But that's another debate.

It's one thing to consciously buy copies but being tricked into thinking you're getting the real thing is another, so warning, be extra careful, if you're on the lookout for these scarcities. This kind of scam is sadly meant to spread.

In the meantime, ignorance is bliss for these cons so here's what's good to know and precautions to take:
  1. Beware of  auctions having the same pictures ripped off blogs and online stores, ask for "real" pictures, especially of the soles
  2. ask for proofs of purchase, not everyone keeps it true but it can be an indicator of the seller's seriousness,
  3. ask the location where articles were made (all IM shoes are made in Portugal and have been for years now, never China or any other place),
  4. there are no such things as ebay stores no one ever heard of getting plenty new stocks of items which have been sold-out for months.
  5. In case of doubt, call the boutiques, check with bloggers who own these items.
Oh and the same precautions go for the low boots ("Dickers" or whatever name they have now) and the wedge fringe boots, well all the shoes collection actually...

To end on a more positive note, you can still find little gems on the web at discount prices and here bellow are my latest finds.

(my pics)

  1. oh my, thanks for this post. it's so scary that they're making fakes of IM shoes now, and god knows what else. yeah i think you're right, it does make sense that she resisted e-commerce for so long. i love that coat in your photo - is it from this season?

  2. Miss Sophie: It seems like Marant's decision to sell online, combined with the celebrities endorsement created this new and awful setback. I honestly didn't see it coming however. I had never seen fakes of this brand till a few weeks ago, only strongly "inspired" articles.
Thanks about the coat, it is indeed from this season.

  4. I've noticed that too - so scary! I hadn't seen fakes until just recently either. Have you seen the online stores, full of fake Isabel Marant?
it makes me hesitant to buy Im off eBay. You have made some great buys, though!

  5. Thanks Pierre!

Lin: Many many years ago, I bought a Balenciaga bag on eBay and thanks to forum members, I was able to identify it as a fake and get my money back.
Internet may be the place of all scams but some users are life -or should I say- money savers and I'm forever grateful of their intervention. So I'm merely returning the favor.
Regarding my latest purchases, I was a bit hesitant at first with the coat but it's growing fast on me! Thanks!

Garderoben: At first when I saw the shoes, I didn't pay attention because I was focused on other Marant items but then, I was surprised to see so many listings considering that the sneakers, at least, have been sold out for months. A french forum confirmed my suspicion and I was appalled to see the bidding wars raging over fake shoes!
Anyway this made me less inclined to bid on overseas auctions now but I sadly also noticed French ebayers selling fake sneakers.
At least for the moment, clothes, especially from older collections, seem to be out of the fake range... It sounds like items counterfeited are the "hip" items from the main line.
