Winter is coming*

Or maybe not, "thanks" to global warming but if it does come, I shall be ready to handle it.

First, I got rid of my 3 years old Uniqlo down puffy outerwear and invested in another parka still from Uniqlo which reminded me at the same time of my dream parkas from APC and Woolrich both obviously way out of budget.

Nonetheless, the quality and attention to details of the Uniqlo is outstanding: with water repellent properties, light but warm filling, multiple pockets lined with fleece and a removable faux fur hood (I hate this fixture! And I don't understand why every brand must put some kind of hairy fluff around the hood of their parkas...), I tested it a few weeks ago when we experienced a day or two of cold and it felt really good to be protected that well against the elements, really satisfied with it.

Then I also grabbed Hope's Survival boots on their first day of sales. I've been lurking out for these boots for about 2 years now, each time they're sold out in my size even before the sales begin or they do not even get a discount. I've been holding my breath, checking the brand's eshop and couldn't believe that I finally managed to get them and a little cheaper.

These shearling lined suede boots are incredibly warm, practical and don't look out of place in the city (I wanted a footwear option between the extreme Sorel snow boots and "regular" -yet not fit for cold- boots). I can see myself wearing them with my new Zara cigarette cropped jeans or with my old Isabel Marant black sweatpants.

With these outerwear and shoes addition, some Uniqlo's efficient Heattech innerwear and a few cashmere accessories (beanie, scarf, gloves and socks) I think I'm covered enough for and ready to fight the winds of winter!*

  1. I dislike hoodies in general and the hairy parkas are just it for me !

This year has been warmer for us too - in India and America. Global warming.

I live in a place where it doesnt snow. So winter is about beautiful knits layered.

    1. Great! One more for the team no furry hooded parka! I actually like the practical aspect of the hood but the hairy thing framing it, no thank you!
Oh lucky you just piling up layers for winter! It's not like it's snowing every winter in Paris but it's a possibility I can live without or just the little nice snow flakes when I'm home and don't have to leave it!Haha!

  2. I actually had the green version of the parka in my basket yesterday and upon checkout, it said it was out of stock - gah! And I don't actually mind the furry hoods, I like the eskimo look :)

    Happy New Year Aissa

    1. Thanks Sue! My best wishes for 2016 for you and your loved ones!
The Eskimo look suits you!! :)) The mix of my afro hair and the furry hood feels rather dubious to me! haha!
It's funny because I was checking the uk website before the French sales started and noticed it had sold out long ago whereas there are still a few available on Uniqlo's French eshop.

  3. I went to your Instagram immediately to see if you'd worn it. :) Is the suede on the Hope boots treated with water-repellent cover?

    1. I didn't take a picture the day I wore that parka but looking at the weather forecast I might have a chance to do so next week! ;))
Good question re the boots being water-repellent, I assumed so considering their purpose, the reviews on Totokaelo and the waxy aspect of the suede but I will certainly spray them with waterproof before wearing them outside and in wet weather.

  4. Haha! I was part of the bare legged Parisians, it was so warm by the end of December by our usual weather standards. Poor you, I hope you'll recover fast from that French flu!

    1. Damn, what a turnaround! It's more gradual on our side. Good luck and hoping no polar vortex this year!

  6. A good thick hood will block wind nicely, and I think the furry bit helps that. I was eyeing those Uniqlo parkas as well, but I have a ridiculous puffy North Face one that still has one or two years left in it, so held off. They looked very warm though.

Those boots are great! Like Uggs except a lot better looking, lol.

So GRRM unfortunately did not meet his December 2015 deadline for finishing the next book (aaarggghhh), so the upcoming season will contain spoilers for the book. I actually stopped watching the show, the showrunners played up the rape-y scenes too much I think. I just want to know what happened to Jon Snow and more importantly, Ghost the direwolf!

    1. The furry hood certainly has a windbreaker purpose. However that's one case where I won't put my longing for practical and comfort first, just not for me. Maybe if I lived in sub zero winter wonderland would I change my mind but for now, nope!

Still too hot to wear the boots! Pfff... I know, I'm full paradox.

GRRM's driving me crazy! 5 years! It's been 5 years of speculations about that Jon Snow situation and still nothing! Can't imagine how much longer it will take him to finish the whole series... I'm still watching the show even if it outraged me, several times, especially those unnecessary scenes.
