No date stamp

It's summer, quite hot, the workplace is deserted so I don't feel the pressure to dress as conservative as usual.

However, I'm trying to create outfits I feel comfortable in and which are also uplifting. That's the goal right? Since you're about to spend the next 10 hours a minima of your day at the office with inbetween metro rides: You want to feel and look good, especially when everyone else is posting pics of sunny white sand beaches and/or raving about their travels while you feel like the only soul in the universe stuck at work! End of rant.

So this is the kind of look I love wearing during summer. It's not forever stamped "summer of 2013". It doesn't involve any trend that we were supposed to be embracing this summer: no Vuitton's geometric sixties patterns, no Isabel Marant's hawaïan influence, not even Dries van Noten's mix match of plaid and prints.

Just a classic black and white look: a blouse, slouchy trousers and sandals. As a matter of fact, none of the clothes and accessories (save for the hat) are new: I ferreted out the blouse of a consignment store, the pants are at least 4 years old Zara TRF and the sandals, a last summer purchase.

The ensemble is loose, because I hate clingy clothes especially when it's hot and want to let my skin breathe. Adding flat sandals at my feet ties up the comfort factor.

As for the uplifting part: I put on my beloved blouse with its tone on tone embroidery and to accentuate the retro laid-back feel good vibe I was into, I chose to add some of my favorite accessories :
 - straw hat for the style, true, but also to prevent my hair from frying,
 - my vintage-y pendant necklace (Isabel Marant) which is an old birthday gift.

Voilà, my kind of summer looks.

  1. I really love this look. It is as you say "timeless" but the best outfits are aren't they? The weather is cooling slightly over here and to be honest, I'm looking forward to being a little more "dressed" even if my day to day stuff is rather plain. And the slouchiness of the pants is just perfect. I can't do baggy pants - they just me look bigger and I have to wear more streamlined shapes but I hear you about the comfort factor when it's hot? Who would want to stick themselves in skinny jeans when it's blazing hot out there.

P.S. the hat is really cool.

    1. Oh, it's barely september and summer's not over yet but there's this feeling in the air that says that it's time to set aside some of the lightest clothes, the air is definitely cooler in Paris too. Now we can go back to our skinny jeans without feeling like we're wearing sauna pants!
Thanks about the hat, it's one of those cheap but great purchase.

  2. Great outfit, and you're right, this is something that isn't going to date. The hat is such a great touch.

    1. Thanks Lin! I'm in admiration of people with an eye and taste for quirky combination but unfussy style is what really draws me.

  4. Aissa, I really love that navy blouse of yours? I wonder if I can get lucky enough to find one if I do a search on eBay. I'd love to wear white but knowing myself, it won't take 2 seconds for me or my daughter to plonk a couple of marks on it.

    1. The blouse is actually black Marlene... Sorry about the confusing bad quality iPhone pics! I'm sure you can score one on eBay. I tried selling mine a few weeks ago before changing my mind! Haha!
