11 questions

Kayte, the author of the blog Carnet de Style tagged me. Here are her 11 questions and my answers :

1. A 100 Euro bill lands at your feet. What do you do with it?
I wish I could say that I'd put in on my saving account but the most likely option is that I'd use it as provision for the purchase of an item I've been dreaming of .
2. By magic, all colors disappear but one. Which do you keep?
  Grey.
3. Who inspires you when putting together your outfits ?

There are lot of people who inspire me but it's more about a mix of influences, tastes  and  practical variables (weather, social circumstances etc) rather than another person's look that I have in mind when I put together an outfit . I'm sensitive to celebrities style like Keri Russell, Thandie Newton, Tracee Ellis Ross, Michelle Williams, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kate Moss...
4. What are the 10 essential  items of your wardrobe ?

I dismissed outerwear and shoes which are too tied to seasonal changes to focus on items worn almost all year round.
  1. a scarf, my neck is very sensitive to drafts and gets achy quickly.
  2. ankle length trousers
  3. my old and cherished h&m jeans
  4.  straight black trousers from h&m, one of the rare that goes with heels and flats and the cut is impeccable.
  5. striped aka "breton" top
  6. blue shirt
  7. grey Comptoir des Cotonniers knit which can also be worn as a cardigan
  8. pencil skirt
  9. black tunic dress from Uniqlo
  10. My black City Balenciaga is now grafted to me.
5. A good quality brand to name?
I've been rarely disappointed by my purchases from Isabel Marant's main line as well as her Etoile line. I also made great, lasting and worthy finds from Comptoir des Cotonniers, Uniqlo, Gap and even the much criticized H&M and Zara.
6. Tell me about the item in your wardrobe you wore the most...
An H&M jean that I've been loving for years now, pierced, repaired, it follows me no matter the seasons, anywhere and in all my travels.
7. The item on which you could spend a lot on  (shoes, dress, knit...)
The purchase of shoes is without a doubt my most ruinous budget. I prefer to invest in good quality and classic cuts or on the opposite, an original design and the items meeting my demands are often pricy.
8. Your last fashion purchase?
Last Saturday, a red printed blouse. Already worn it 3 days out of 7: it shows promise as a good investment piece!
9. Do you have an artistic talent ?
I've been drawing since I was little.
10. Is there an artist for whom you'd be willing to sell a kidney/ your heart/ liver to get one of his work ?
Ha! Ha! A picture by Malick Sidibé should remain "reasonable" so no amputation in order, but for a Delacroix in his Moroccan period or a van Gogh, the selling of multiple organs is indeed required!
11. You can leave tomorrow without any restriction of time or money, where do you go?

Go West! as The Pet Shop Boys would say!  More precisely, California which I don't know ... for a start and then back to Canada, followed up by Spain, Italy, Greece, Ireland and I could go on and on! So much I want to see.

  1. I appreciate that you have a range of brands you wear, from Isabel Marant to H&M. I have a white short sleeve button down shirt that I got from H&M about 8 years ago, and unfortunately I think I'm going to have to get rid of it because it's gotten so much wear and starting to show - sad!

  2. LN: Ah yes, that's always sad when the time comes to get rid of cherished clothes. It's on occasions like this that I feel I should have bought an extra just in case...
Your comment stands to prove that despite all the criticism, items of good quality can be found in mass market chains. Just like you, I have clothes from "cheap" stores that I've been wearing for years, if not a decade now, that are still in fantastic condition.
On the other hand, a couple of years ago, I bought linen tees from h&m and Zara because I didn't want to pay the full price for a Marant one, which I found ludicrous but the items never lasted more than a couple of months and then last year I caved in and got one from Isabel Marant. The difference with the quality of the material is indeed noticeable and this spring, no need to look for a replacement because it still looks great.
So I think that when it comes to mass market chains, getting a worthy item is a bit of chance and looking for the best materials and cut possible but finding "good" long lasting stuff there is possible.
