Le test - The test

Like many other women around the world, I had spotted that jacket on the Isabel Marant summer 2012 runway. To tell the truth, it's the only item from the show which made a lasting and lusting  impression on me!

Then, when it hit stores, I tried it on, loved it, hesitated for awhile but in the end, found the price too steep for a summer jacket so I didn't buy it.

However by extraordinary a few weeks ago, I found it second hand but actually almost brand new and much, much cheaper. Of course, I jumped on the occasion and here I am, the owner of a Ulyse.

In short, I should be "happy" and show it off, right? I just have a matter of size. It's a 38 and as much as I've been subscribing to Isabel's oversize cuts for years now, I had a doubt about the fit. I felt like the 36 would fit better. As a consequence, it turned into a fixation, comparing my jacket to the other bloggers. For once, my inner circle, and without me asking about it (!), declared that the jacket was great...

So was I splitting hairs here?

In the end, to clear my mind about it and before making any rash decision about it (as in putting it up on eBay), I decided to take pictures considering my very critical mind it was, I figured, the perfect test. In the kind of outfits I generally wear, nothing mind-blowing indeed, I took a few shots.
I think it was the right decision, the exercise allowed me to get out of a distorted vision, by avoiding the "pollution" of all the images of beautiful and stylish ladies flowing on the Internet, so I could really see it and start to make the jacket truly mine.

July 26th edit: I finally put it on eBay. If anyone's interested, I think it's the only one on auction at the moment...

    1. Thanks! Yet, I'm still on the fence about it. Isn't it weird?

  2. I really like the jacket so I'm giving it a few more tries but usually I'm not making such a fuss about clothes. It's either in or out without a doubt.

  3. I think the Ulyse looks the best at the 1st/2nd picture. I really love this jacket. Maybe you can find someone who wants to swap the jacket. I think you will regret getting rid of it...

    1. Thanks for the feedback! I really love the jacket too. I also once talked myself into selling my Bator coat and luckily for me, it never worked out! That's why I'm taking my time to settle the matter and wrote this post to have a more distanced view of the item. That said, so far I've only worn it once outside and haven't been able to shake that feeling that something's not right (for me) about it. Not a good sign in my books.

  4. hey I think the jacket looks great on you!
I like the jacket too... tried it on before but sadly it didn't work its magic on me:(
In my opinion the jacket looks its best on a taller frame, preferably someone with slightly broader shoulders(I am a petite it looked ridiculous on me even I tried a 36)...
I have seen it on many other bloggers.. honestly most of them just don't make it work. The jacket simply looks too large on the "standard body frame", if you know what I mean

  5. Oh thanks a lot! The jacket's the kind of basic with a twist that I always fall for but independently of the style, I agree that it should suit the body frame even if it can lead to some "heartbreaking" decisions.
