The little new one - Le petit nouveau

I have a new bag.

My craving started in early March. The sun was shining back then, full of promises of warm and gorgeous days ahead (NB: I'm a bit lyrical but that's the result of 3 months in a row of rain, winds and cold... will it ever stop??) and I wanted a bright bag, preferably in red...

Something to put winter away, a bit like the equivalent to a little red convertible, something that screams life, youthfulness, fun yet classical and versatile enough to be worn all year long.

My favorite options were the Gérard Darel plum bag worn by SJP or the shoulder tote version of the Longchamp pliage cuir, in red or turquoise but none were completely satisfying.

I then remembered that last year as I was contemplating the Céline bags at Le Bon Marché (a Paris department store), I had spotted a rare version of the brand's tote in red, smaller, horizontal, easily wearable over the shoulder and with a zip fastening on top.
At the time, I tried it on and not even giving it a thought mercilessly put it back, favoring its funkier, trendier open top version.

Well, funky and trendy are overrated as I found out after a summer of use that said tote was too deep, too insecure for the métro, quasi-impossible to wear over the shoulder with bulkier outerwear which sealed its fate and so I sold it back.

When a few months ago, I found that "little" tote again, it was much harder to give it back to the sales assistant: everything about it pleased me so much, its uncluttered cut, the dimensions, lightness, functionality and of course this beautiful primary red. I started saving, selling to get my little red bag, which I did last week and I'm absolutely enamoured with it.

Also it's a nice change from the Balenciaga City which I've been wearing everyday for the past 6 months, in all kind of weather, with other commuters and pedestrians' careless and abrupt contacts (seriously, people keep bumping into me and not in a gentle way of course... It's not so hard to pay attention, is it??!) and the impact of these conditions of use was starting to make me anxious of its longevity.

This little red number has the advantage to make me shake things up a bit, like earlier this week, pairing a grey scarf, mint knit, blue jeans and kaki beige boots with it. Never would  have I put it all together and I thought the result was interesting.

  4. Gorgeous bag! It really pops against your white swear. I love open top bags as well but I'm always paranoid that people will try to take something out when I'm not looking.

    1. Thanks! I share your concerns. Using public transportations, I find it incredibly risky when carrying an open top bag.
