Covered

First outfit post of the new season which is the occasion for the christening of a new jacket.

Recently my weakness for outerwear has reached new highs. I used to be crazy about bags, shoes and scarves and now that I got all 3 mostly cornered and covered, my obsession drifts towards jackets, coats, trench, parka, etc. Name any kind of outerwear and I'm on it.

So far, I got 3 new jackets... And I want more. In all fairness, to balance and finance these recent acquisitions, I also parted with a bunch of items. Yet, being the over-analyzer, I can rationalize and realize that I don't need a second black leather jacket nor a new coat.

Still, the power of the outerwear is grand.

Putting on a jacket/coat is for the coming 7 months (a minima) like a second skin. A protection from the elements but also the most visible part of any outfit and certainly one of the most worn out piece of cloth of a wardrobe.

So the temptation is great, at least for me, to shed skin from time to time. To put on leather on days I want to add a bit of toughness, a simple black blazer for a conservative setting, a knitted blouson during week-ends, a boucle jacket to keep warm without being bland, and so on.

Like any obsession, my key to keep it tamed is to be coherent and think-think-think because I have a tendency to like almost everything that comes before my eyes. And if I gave in to my shopaholic self, I would already own ten new jackets and coats. For instance, among many others, that fluffy blue -FW 2011 Jil Sander like- h&m coat, or this Zara boucle coat, not to mention a few oldies that I still crave for, like last winter's Michael Kors elbow slit coat

Voilà, so I don't have a radical and absolute antidote to my outerwear cravings but I guess like all things, time and lots of reasoning will subdue my ever expanding desires.

  1. The Obli jacket looks lovely on you. I've seen it online but it's nice to see it "modelled" so perfectly. Lovely look.

    1. Thanks Sue! I must say I wasn't convinced by the way the Obli was styled by online stores except on lagarçonne.

    1. Thanks! I like your references very much! Haha! RO + CC= IM Obli! :))

Ah the sneakers... I have both the Betty and Bekket and find them really comfortable and true to size. I'm a 38 and always wear this size in IM footwear. But I've read everything on IM sizing that it's too small, too big. Never experienced any issue in that regard whether with ballet flats, sandals, Dickers etc.

  4. Aissa, I'm totally with you with respect to winter jackets/coats. I already got two jackets this year and still I want more! (yes, a Jill Sander look alike is still in my list... what a coat!).
The Obli looks great on you. I bought the Momo, but I've to confess I'm not sure about the purchase... It's definitely too colourful for me. The Obli is really a lot more my style. Well, anyway, I'll have to adapt the Momo to my style, I suppose.

    1. Thanks Sonia!
The Jill Sander fuzzy coat is so cocoon like, almost like a blanket!
I think the Momo must look great with lots of greys and navys to bring out the colorful threads.

  5. I love the Obli on you! I can relate, I'm also obsessed with coats and jackets. I haven't bought any for fall, but only because the one I want is just too expensive.

  6. Love all of this - I am experiencing a lot of confusion this year concerning coats....far too cold for jackets of any kind here once September is through, and the only coat I wore last year (for nearly 6 months, due to atrocious weather) was an oversized padded down affair with a snuggly hood. So sad that we rarely experience those legendary autumnal days of crisp sunlight and cool temps....only torrential rain recently, and wild blustery winds. I have quite a few lovely jackets which I haven't been able to wear for years, and my favourite trench is still hanging on the back of my bedroom door, waiting....for spring, perhaps!

I would also say suede boots and bags are also a bad idea considering the British wintertime. I feel bullied out of style and back into anything resembling a sleeping bag - just cover me and keep me dry, haha!

I really like how this outfit compliments the Betty's, too!

    1. Oh no! I thought you would be enjoying your wonderful Burberry all fall! Is the weather that dreadful you can't wear it? It must be so frustrating to not be able to wear such a gorgeous item!

Last year at the same time, I was ready to get rid of an old parka and bewildered by the crazyness surrounding the Uniqlo down outerwear. By January/February, I was praising myself for not throwing said parka away... Now, last time I was at Uniqlo I did check their down coats!

The thing is that we used to have mild winters in Paris and now at least for the past couple of years, it turns out to be quite unpredictable so we have to be ready for anything! Meaning that I've stopped snubbing items that can get me though the day and remain decent looking/comfortable.

  7. I am a total outerwear addict too. I'd like to blame it on growing up in colder climates, but really I'm just a sucker for a good coat or jacket. I have way too many and never stop looking. Your jacket, by the way, is absolutely stunning. Love it!

I can relate. The weather and climate is such a good excuse to get more outerwear!!
After shoes and bags,I wonder if there's already a psy study on this matter...

  8. Love the jacket! I'm trying to not buy any new ones this year, I have so many and the season is actually quite short - before you know it, it will be heavy wool and down puffer coat season! On the other hand, wearing a jacket makes any of my outfits 10x better I feel...

    1. Thank you!
I was browsing an old issue of Lucky when I stumbled upon that quote "the coat is the outfit" which I find to be quite true in my case! I've realized I can use "few" (hum) basic clothes but jackets/coats are my weakness.
Plus, I'm not the kind to discriminate, I can fall in love with outerwear from massmarket chains like h&m to upper luxury Céline or Maje!
