March in my closet

Here's what made its way into my closet last month (from top to bottom, left to right):

H&M lightweight cashmere scarf: Previously mentioned. I'm a sucker for scarves... Sue me, I'm French! That's registered in our way of dressing DNA! Haha!

Gap camo ankle skinny: Already hinted about these. They're a welcome change from my usual blue/black jeans. I wore them twice already and they prove to be quite versatile and easy to combine.

APC sweatshirt (second-hand): This was in "the one(s) that got away" category. I've wanted it for such a long time but due to my slow time reaction, missed it when released. The retro/sporty/preppy vibe and the grey/bordeaux coloring make it the ideal laidback companion.

Isabel Marant Etoile waffle knit (second-hand): also in "the one(s) that got away" category as it sold out incredibly fast. It's the classic spring beige knit, not much else to say except that I love the simple design and texture.

Zara leopard printed blouse :  I've had a lingering desire for a leopard blouse to wear during spring/summer in my mind for a while now. This version fits my bill: decent material quality (viscose), accurate print, loose cut, not too deep a décolleté.

Isabel Marant black embroided blouse (second-hand): completely unplanned purchased. That's a total weakness on my behalf: it was cold but sunny and I spotted it in my favorite consingment store, tried it on, loved it, started having delusions of summer outfits around the blouse, checked the price tag and gone were any reasonable resolutions.

Voilà for march purchases.

There are several reports/surveys indicating that clothing sales are down because of the impact of the (bad) weather.

I must say I fall in the category, postponing big fashion purchases (footwear and outerwear) because :

a) it was snowing this morning...
b) therefore, it's still too cold for a trench or ballet flats,
c) And I want to be able to wear what I buy  at once or at least in a foreseeable future.

Buying in the season for the season helped me reduce mistakes but it sometimes lead me to miss some amazing items (as above mentioned) which left me kicking myself !

Are you like that influenced by the climate when it comes to shopping and delay purchases? Or are you able to buy without consideration of instant wearability?

  1. I'm always on the lookout for APC sweatshirts but have I come across any that I like in my size yet? NO.

I like the college style of yours - fun and funky.

    1. Thanks Suee! Don't despair, maybe a little daytrip to Paris would help you luck out? ;))

  2. I think living in the UK makes summer shopping tricky - the shops will soon be full of tropical prints and sundresses but realistically, I won't get to wear these things. I haven't bought summer clothes for a few years because I love what I have and really wouldn't get the chance to wear any more. However, slouchy jumpers and trousers that can be worn all year round are always welcome! I love that Isabel Marant knit - I've been on the lookout for a waffle knit for ages.

    1. Hear, hear! I completely understand your view and share the same shopping attitude as the summer weather in France has been as fickle as in the UK!
Still, I don't know about you but right now I feel like migrating to somewhere warm and dry till next fall...

Thanks about the sweater! I don't know what's your budget but J Crew has this navy cashmere waffle henley that looks really cute and I think Zara sells this kind of style too.

    1. Hehe! The camo pants are great but I wouldn't have paid them full price either. When it comes to shopping at The Gap, I always wait for a discount to buy...

  5. Hum...good question? I try to buy as the season approaches, to top up my wardrobe with basics, and add a few key pieces and accessories each season, although I always make one or two rather rash decisions, which I regret later on!! I do think that in the uk most women buy according to the weather, hence why a lot of fashion stores are struggling at the moment added to this very bad recession x Roll on sunshine!

    1. I think your analysis can be applied to France too. The stores are full of people but only a few make (summerish) purchases.
And yeah, weather is even more THE talk du jour or should I say of the past few weeks: when is spring coming??

Have you made one of your rash decision yet? I'm very very tempted by a leather jacket but I have a bad record with leather jackets, except for the only one I have, all the others I got ended up in regrets, returns or ebay resales...

  6. I try to buy things on sale - which means I have to wait to wear them until the following year. As you mentioned, this has also resulted in missing some of my most coveted items. However, there are few pieces that I spend full price for, if they are items that I can wear in transition for seasons) and that I have decided will be my only splurges for that time of year - usually shoes and a coat (like you!) However, the last Dries collection has completely derailed any self-restraint for me, since I'm convinced many of the items I want won't make it to sale. P.S. Score on the Isabel sweater. One of my favorite sweaters ever!

    1. I don't mean to enable you but when I see how the Paris DvN store and corners are always, not Zara on a saturday afternoon packed, but unusually crowded, I think you're right to get what you can while you can!

Thanks about the sweater, my heart sure made a little lurch when I spotted it!

  7. Wonderful buys! I'm always elated when I discover a "one that got away" on ebay or in a consignment shop. Since I almost always buy on sale, I usually have a few things I miss each season and hunt down afterwards.

When I was younger and on a very tight budget, I never even questioned buying from end-of-season clearance and having to wait til the next year to wear those items. Now that I'm older and have more disposable income, it's much harder for me to purchase out-of-season as I want to wear things fairly soon after I buy them. This long, gloomy winter has definitely kept me from purchasing much for spring.

I completely relate with the way your shopping habits evolved with your professional situation. That said, I don't know about you but my tastes evolved too and don't necessarily match my budget anymore than when I was a student! Haha!
That's why I find it so great now with online outlets and second hand stores to hunt down and find missed (and often out of range priced) items.

  9. Such great finds!! I wish I'd known that H&M made a cashmere scarf, I love scarfs. I missed out on that IM sweater too, and I love the embroidered blouse!
I'm definitely influenced by the weather, still looking for a nice black cashmere sweater, in April! I've been drooling over a pair of plum coloured A.P.C sandals, but it's just too cold! I'm afraid that they'll sell out anyway, so I check the availability every day!

Don't tell me it's the APC low wedges in suede and leather? They're so lovely! I've been looking "innocently" at the navy ones since I can't find the leopard DvN anywhere but the same weather concerns made me delay any prospect of purchase.

    2. Yep, the low wedges! I love the navy ones too, but I'm suck a sucker for burgundy! I can't forget about them, but I've been buying to much lately. I blame Dries.

  10. Aissa, I went to a sale with a friend and found the APC sweatshirt. Loved it but my friend kept making goo goo eyes at it so I surrendered the sweatshirt to her. Wait a minute?? H&M sells cashmere scarves?? Since when? You're so right though. On my very first visit to France, I was just gobsmacked when I saw every woman (yup, every single woman) with a scarf wrapped around her neck. Now that I'm a self professed Francophile, I'm never seen without a scarf ( a wannabe French who can't speak French).

    1. What a great friend you are!! I'd be willing to share part-time custody of the sweater but that's it! Haha!
Yeah, the scarf is indeed a national thing. It's rather comical isn't it? Don't know where and when it started but I love the easy elegant accessorization it provides.
