Golden

Ever since spotting the Golden Goose sneakers on a La Garçonne editorial several years ago, the shoes made a lasting impression mainly because:

a) I don't like "new" sneakers as in bright and shiny. So the worn and used yet actually brand new effect is spot-on, no need to break/distress them.

b) they're an incredible mix of old school/vintage and grungy, references which always make me falter...What can I say: smells like (my) teen spirit right ?

c) and the powers-that-be at La Garçonne AKA the styling team did a great job to make me feel like these shoes would be the perfect ending touch to any casual outfits and that no other sneakers would do.

Alas, as often, I may have luxury tastes but it's rare that my bank account allows me to fulfill them and in that case, the unaffordable 500 $ price tag for canvas sneakers coupled with its scarcity on second-hand markets set definitive limits to my fancy.

So when I came across these Jonak sneakers with a mixed air of Francy and Slide, I kind of felt, well, golden!

I plan to let them instil a dose of boyish grungy vibe to laidback outfits completely inspired by the editorial which initiated my obsession for the Golden Goose sneakers.

  1. are they on sale for 99 euro? i need to shop where you shop, Aissa!

love the way they're styled for a slouchy garconne look. how have your other Golden Goose sneakers held up? i have two pairs of their boots and they are so tough and luxe.

    1. yeah, the price sounded so much more reasonable compared to the Golden Goose's ! Haha! But I don't own any GG sneakers at all...
Your appreciation of the brand's boots makes sense, they certainly know how to make great footwear.
I can also see the GG influence in the latest Isabel Marant boots...

  2. The La Garconne stylist did a great job. Despite being 4 years old, the looks are still very edgy and current. Totally my style. Must check out the Golden Goose sneakers.

    1. I guess that's what makes the success of this online store: the selection and styling is usually perfect. They truly have great eyes for fashion and know how to translate it in eds. I'm often more inspired by their presentation of outfits than by any magazines.

  3. I'm not familiar with Jonak before this post but I am now. I can't find those particular sneakers on line but I've found some other lovely APC inspired sandals from the same brand whilst I was "researching".

Like Marlene says - the styling still looks current and edgy despite so many years down the line. If you get them, I look forward to seeing how you style them. I can't do hi tops unfortunately.

    2. Doh! And I did stare at them quite hard but didnt spot the star but did like the way you wore them but I actually thought they were your blazers. Gosh - that was poor sentence construction wasn't it. Apologies in advance - it's been a long night and I should be in bed.

  4. My goodness, I can't believe they charge $500 for sneakers! The 99 euro pair makes a lot more sense.

You're right about the styling - although I always wish their models didn't look so emanciated. They seem to get skinnier by the year.

    1. I completely agree with your observation regarding the Lagarçonne's models... Also, I'm not asking for "happy shiny people" but if the models could drop the post teen sulky face once in awhile and adding more diversity to the cast would be great.

  5. I'm still trying to discover my quintessential way of styling hi top sneakers. So far doing the converse style, but nothing could get me to shell out over $100. Ever. Well maybe :)
