I want to try the white pants during fall so instead of storing them away till next year, I kept my Zara summer cotton pants. Planning on wearing them just like last spring with grey, classic navy on white stripes and sneakers. If I'm really into the look, I might buy one that's more cold season appropriate like the Gap skinny cords.

Old outfit pics from last May. I was wearing:
jacket, striped top & scarf: Isabel Marant Etoile - sweater: COS - pants: Zara TRF - sneakers: New Balance x Comptoir des Cotonniers - bag: Céline

As much as I love my Hope oversized turtleneck sweater, it's quite thick making it not the most practical knit to wear, so with the recent profusion of oversized sweaters now in stores, I found one that's on the thinner spectrum which I plan on wearing like this:

I got the oversized jacket from the Isabel Marant x H&M collection last August. I keep trying it on as it's finally getting possible to wear it -not this week-end though, it's 25° C in Paris. Yes, mid-October, it's still summer... Not complaining at all! Anyway, I'm just on the fence with that jacket, it looks so good on others:

(Andy Heart)

I was thinking on wearing it in a casual/minimal way, very much like Andy Heart or à la Man Repeller (with a lot less accessories). But here comes again the contradiction between what I like and what I find flattering, sometimes luckily both sides coincide but on this instance, I'm not so sure...

Because I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the cut at the shoulders. So I'm toying with keeping it because it's a beautiful item or selling it back. Thoughts?

  1. It is very similar to your other marant coat. If you don't feel as good in it as you do in the other, I would sell it.

    1. Yes, the other one is getting old and it starts to show which is why this one was supposed to be a spare... I haven't made my mind yet.

    2. (I might have double posted, I tried to post via my phone as well) Aha, I see. Well I have had the shoulders of an expensive coat taken in. It set me back about 30-40 GBP, and the job was very successful. I think it is easier to take the shoulders in nicely when working with a thick tweed, compared to a finer material. I really like the rest of the Marant coat, so I would probably go for it. There must be loads of competent seamstresses in London. Whether the sleevelength will be shortened will depend on HOW you take in the shoulders, I believe.

    3. Thanks to you I just withdrew the jacket from eBay! I really like it so I'll try to find a tailor who can fix the shoulders area this week-end. Crossing fingers, it'll work out for the best! I rarely think of seamstresses, even having my jeans hemmed is incongruous, as if ready to wear clothes should fit perfectly or else be dismissed when a little tweaking can save the day! Thanks again! Will keep you posted on the jacket!

  2. It definitely doesn't look bad but if it doesn't feel right again and again, then probably your instincts are correct!

    1. Thanks Rachel! I want to like it so bad that I don't fully trust my instincts! Haha!

  3. I've kept my white jeans out too thinking I should try one of those white denim in fall/winter looks that Emanuelle Alt does so well, but I never do it because dark jeans are so much more flattering on me!

The IM x H&M jacket was one of the pieces I wanted from the collection. It does look a bit big in the shoulders, but it might be OK if you're planning on wearing thicker sweaters underneath?

    1. Yeah I chicken out too for the same reasons when it comes to white jeans -whatever the season actually. Maybe some off white slightly beige/cream pants would work better. White AND tight is just too much for me.

I'm still very conflicted about the jacket, I compulsively checked pictures of the jacket worn and noticed that the big shoulders issue always pops up...

  4. The cut really accentuates the shoulders, it's kind of an Isabel Marant thing. It's actually the right size/fit but one has to embrace the oversize effect. I also thought about having it altered but as you pointed out, it's a tricky area.

  5. I ordered the jacket and it was quite laughable on me but partly I am quite a few inches shorter than you and you definitely need some height to balance out the boxiness. Infact someone asked to buy it from me who was a similar size to me before I returned it and I had to say, I didn't think I would be doing right by her to let her spend her money on something which I knew would drown her. At the end of the day, if you're not 100% happy and it's down to the fit more than anything - then it probably isn't right.

    1. Sue, you rightfully point out the issue with that type of cut, I think you either have to be quite tall or be willing to wear high heels to avoid being "drowned". I sadly feel too clownish wearing it so away it shall go!

  6. Aissa I love the gray-on-white action up top; if you do end up getting the white cords I want to see how you'll wear those. I usually like dark (read: black) denim because most of my footwear is dark, but I don't know what footwear would work with white jeans without cutting off the leg line.

    1. Thanks Kristina! I was thinking of wearing the white cords with tan/brown footwear (my Isabel Marant cowboy boots or New Look oxfords) or with black boots but with enough height in order to elongate the leg and avoid the leg cutting issue! ;))

  7. Echoing others I do think that the shoulders droop a bit too much to be flattering. And like Eizhowa said your other IM coat seems pretty similar, so I personally don't see the point in owning multiples if one of them makes you feel less than 100% confident. I do, however, like your plans for how you'd wear a thinner turtleneck :)

    1. In retrospect I don't think it's that similar to the Bator - besides the oversized factor... Anyway, my attachment to the jacket is not rational to say the least which is why I'm so conflicted about it!

    2. Oh haha about the (lack of) similarity. It's not a style I search for often so that probably accounts for my generalizations ;)

      (sorry for the double post!)
