The (week-end) polish

Lately I've been feeling the need to be more "footwear polished" on week-ends. I diagnosed it as the result of a sneakers overdose which, between Adidas Gazelle /Stan Smith, Golden Goose knock-offs, Célinesque skate slip-ons, etc., I too frequently used and abused over the past year or so.

As much as I love sneakers, it got to a point where putting them on with any outfits didn't make me feel "cool" or good, just boring and lazy. Not to mention that -at least in Paris- everyone and their grandmother is wearing white Stan Smith - even my boss... I love them and not totally signing off on my favorite sneakers, mind you, just giving them a rest for a while.

So being the rebel that I am, I want to wear "real" shoes now even on my days off.

Started last week-end with patent black brogues that I diverted from their usual for workwear only purpose.

Honestly, I was not 100% convinced by this overall shapeless outfit but I didn't want to lose my Saturday morning fussing about clothes, changing this or that, creating chaos in my bedroom and eventually losing my mind in the process, so I just went along with it.

In the end, my state of mind was as careless as if I had been wearing sneakers but I definitely felt a little style upgrade.

  1. I want to do this with my under-used loafers! The thing I don't like about those shoes is how they inevitably pinch my toes (too narrow toe box) so I hardly ever wear them. Good on you for challenging yourself!

    1. I know what you mean, most "proper" shoes are definitely not as comfy as sneakers. It took me years to break these patent oxfords! Have you tried an anti-chafing cream? I use one that's designed for marathon runners. It's very useful to prevent discomfort and blisters.

    2. I should do that. I do have a tube of Body Glide--it's more like a wax/deodorant stick. Good call.

  2. The nice thing about a trend like white trainers is that they're classic so you can keep wearing them when everyone else stops!

    1. So true! I didn't imagine that this white sneakers trend would last so long...

  3. I love the outfit! Doesn't look that shapeless :) I purchased some great mid-heel Zara boots on clearance (19.99!) that I'm hoping to put in my weekend rotation... As soon as the snow and rain stop!! I do love my patent leather oxford shoes but since I wear them so often for work, it messes with my weekend mood if I wear them outside of work, lol.

    1. Thanks Koko! The last days of sales at Zara is when you always seem to unearth some really great cheap treasures like your coat last year! I'm jealous, I never find anything! Huh!
I also prefer to avoid "work" clothes and shoes on week-ends but aside from sneakers and a couple of other -banned for workwear- shoes, I don't have that much option which is what I clearly need to "work" on... Just started the task with a second-hand pair of mid-heel patent boots from Acne... Can't wait to get them.
