The badass, the dandy, the boho and the fly girl

Right now, I'm positively stuck in a uniform. My repeat offender look is composed of :

- 2 "colors": black and grey
- outerwear rotating between: Gap peacoat/Comptoir des Cotonnier coat/ Isabel Marant's Bator coat,
- dark slim/skinny trousers
- grey cashmere scarf
- Balenciaga City bag.

But I'm experiencing a euphoric blast with shoes. Lately, I've let my feet do the talking. I'm usually blasé when it comes to shoes. I've been wearing the same old sturdy heeled Colisée de Sacha boots or my Lanvin ballet flats to work for the past 3/4 years if not more, on week-ends it's up to Isabel Marant boots, destroyed Comptoir des Cotonniers x nike sneakers or Gap moto boots on. In short tried and true shoes but kind of "same old-same old" too.

Which certainly explains the recent addiction I've developped that made me acquire a little number of  pairs. From the Lanvin boots to the mass market productions, it's been quite a festival of treats for my feet. I have only eyes for them. The rest of my outfit? Don't care. I love my new shoes so much that each morning I feel like a kid, wondering which shoe will I slip my feet into.I'm not competing with the likes of Mariah Carey or Kimora...yet!

My latest shoes purchases dictate my looks and set the tone for the mood I want to translate in my outfits.

All in all, I think it's further proof that I don't need tons of clothes as I'm always wearing the same things and that the strictness I'm following right now over clothes purchases is fit.

So when in the mood for a badass grungy outfit, I'll just add these bellow. With their zippers, folds, the subtle hint to Yohji Yamamoto, these black deconstructed boots make me feel so stylish even if the rest of what I'm wearing is the blandest combination. They also remind me of the boots in one of my favorite Jalouse editorial .

I got these André straped boots bellow last April. At the time, I was looking for the original J.M.Weston boots but even second-hands were too expensive for me. Till French shoes brand André delivered these inspired facsimile with a hint of J.M. Weston/Hermès/Céline, made affordable for the masses. Since I got them, they're my work days go-to boots. I just add a tailored jacket, slim slightly cropped trousers and instantly feel like a dandy.

For week-ends, a touch of boho carefree attitude is provided to my aforementioned uniform by these shearling lined suede boots. They're so comfortable and warm, I can only be at peace with the world when I'm wearing them!

My inner 90's fly girl/Neneh Cherry fan is ready for a Buffalo Stance with these Isabel Marant sneakers. Tough and sweet, sassy that's for sure. Considering the Marant sneakers, I'm a late bloomer. Since they came out, the sneakers were completely out of my radar despite my fondness for the fellow French designer. How can I explain ? I don't think I can. You either like them or don't. I was among the latter till a few months ago when they became obvious as in "I-can-totally-see-myself-rocking-those". Somehow they also turned out to be some kind of regression fetish as they remind me of the TLC, the late Aaliyah and co era. My teen years.

  1. Loving the IM wedge sneakers on you. I'm kind of coming around on the sneakers (I, too, used to hate them). Sometimes they don't look like they blend organically into a person's look though--like the sneakers focus too much attention on themselves or look awkward on the legs--depending on the person. On you they look adorable!

  2. I LOVE all your posts anyway but this one....awesome. You always look so comfortable and perfect really!

I have a uniform habit also but it extends to the shoes/boots. I'm going to rethink that, thanks! Karen

  3. Prêt: Thank you! Cool is the word that popped in mind when I spotted these shoes and litteraly skided to a halt in front of the store's window to gape at them!

Thanks Anonyme reader! The saying "never say never" is so appropriate when it comes to fashion. There are some currents that I know no matter the popularity, I'll never endorse. Leggings fall under that category. Yet,this morning I was just looking at an old Isabel Marant Etoile catalogue in which the model wears leggings and suddenly it didn't seem that bad, actually it's cute. So just seeing the cloth worn in a way that echoes with my tastes shed a different light to it. Now, I won't start wearing leggings any day soon but the power an image can have to make you warm up and eventually embrace a concept is quite startling and that's what happened for me with the Marant sneakers.

Truly appreciate the kind words Karen! Thanks!
Paradoxically what I enjoy about the uniform is that sometimes I don't want to put much thought on what I put on, you know. Yet I still want to let a bit of personality spill through and not look too zombie like in the dead of Winter. It's actually funny how a pair of shoes induces a different kind of attitude, a particular stride and pace.

  5. Wow, I'm really surprised, because I also thought I'd never liked those IM sneakers. I started warming to the lower top version (Bobby or whatever) but never these really high top ones. That said, you make them look good, it's unbelievable. It's the very paired down yet edgy way you've styled them. They somehow look too literal on others, but not so here. Well done! Love your uniform. The difference in shoes really does change the outfit.

  6. It's amazing how just wearing a different pair of shoes can change an outfit so much!

    Enjoy your new shoes!

  7. I love the Dandy boots - and the Marant sneakers are growing on me. They look so good on you! Shoes really change an outfit, and your mood as well. Right now I'm lusting for Marant's sandals and Jenny boots...

  8. Thanks Julide! Those sneakers definetely brings out attitude! Not to the point to swagger because that's not my style but I walked a little taller and not only because of their hidden wedge, though it did help! ;)).

S: Thanks very much. As we were discussing just a couple of days ago, Isabel Marant status has changed so much over the past few seasons and one thing that puts me off often is the overexposure, be it from h&m, Zara or Marant. To the point that it strips my desire for certain of her items especially from her mainline.
And this played a big part in my late discovery/appreciation of these shoes. There were and still is so much crazyness surrounding these sneakers that the whole purchase process is off-putting.
About the "Bobby" version, I must say la garçonne did once a great job helping me warm up to them! I saw these sneakers in grey and black in IM store last week-end.I didn't dare trying them on though! Haha! Enough with the shoes already!

petrichore: Right?! After finishing that post, I suddenly thought about that black dress project from a few years ago. I don't know if you heard about it (http://www.theuniformproject.com/). I don't mean to replicate the lady's project but as a result of this uniform look, I'm starting to feel the itch to get rid of some of my clothes because it made me aware of the uselessness of a good part of what I own.

    Thanks a lot Emmy!

Garderoben: Thank you! For awhile I was so miserable with shoes. A few years ago, it always seemed to me like what was in stores never agreed with my tastes and personal preferences (heels not too high, too thin) and now I have to restrain myself! I certainly learned the power of shoes in a look. I don't know if it's a mind trick but a good pair of shoes can really lift you up.
Are you thinking about the IM flat leather sandals? If that's the case, I'm also onto them!:))

  11. Ahhh! I love the sneakers!

When I bought my pair, I saw them from afar and I thought to myself, "No.... No...."

and then I put them on and I couldn't take them off.

  12. Miss Sophie: Thanks a lot! "fantabulous", I love that word! It cracks me up! Golden Goose really makes cool shoes. I still have a soft spot for their distressed sneakers...

Merci DailyGlamour!

G: Oh You wear the IM sneakers very well! You know, I saw the pink colored Spring version this morning and my reaction was a repeat of yours. Except I didn't leave the store with a new box this time around!;))
