Universal uniform (Uniforme universel)

Even when the temperatures reached new highs, the structure of my outfits has remained simple and quite sober.

So here I am on my days off and the common denominator for both outfits is the basic association of a (white) top with jeans: the ultimate universal unisex uniform.

But being a bit more in love with clothes and style than the average person, I wanted to add a little thrill to my looks so the solution was to play on contrasts or accessories.

The white stretchy lace top would have felt too overwhelming (for me) with a short skirt, so I paired it with slouchy tapered jeans to play down the top's obvious peek-a-boo cheekiness.

The contrast between the delicate material of the top and the slouchy boyish denim is one of my favorite mix. It's never too done, never too young either.

linen shirt/chemise en lin: Uniqlo (ss 2012) - jeans : h&m - sandals/sandales: Isabel Marant "Merry" (ss 2012) - bag/sac: cabas Céline (ss 2012)

Another variation on the same theme: this saturday, the chosen outfit was a classic white linen button down shirt with dark blue skinny jeans and to shake it up, I just added a colorful bag for a very patriotic -blue, white and red-look.

The shirt + skinny jeans combination has been so far my n°1 casual summer look. It's somehow a discovery.

Usually skinny jeans went with blouses, tees and other kind of tops while my shirts were mainly reserved to work days.

Just this simple minor change made this basic style and look fresh in my eyes.

  3. I really love your clean, simple summer style and the contrast between the lace and denim. I really love Uniqlo too. There was quite a few linen items that I am tempted to buy but I'm really unsure how to dress in summer. I know my winter style but I always feel out of my comfort zone in the warmer months. By the way, I just wanted to say that you've influenced the way I dress. Most of the bloggers that I follow have quite boyish figures and I've always envied them and the clothes that their figure allows them to wear. I am slim but have curves, like you, and your blog has opened my eyes on how to dress and flatter my shape, especially in regards to proportion. Sorry if this post is too long and waffly!

    1. Thanks a lot Hana for your sweet message. I'm doing and dealing with this blog in a very selfish/egocentric way and as much as I love fashion, blogging made me realize that my vision of it is more down to earth so having your positive drawback on it is very heartwarming.

  4. I love your both your outfitss, especially the first one. Perfection!! I'm desperately looking for those jeans, and have been for a while. I found a pair on eBay, but they were too big. Slouchy boyfriend jeans has been part of my summer uniform as well.

  5. I really like the "tri-color" in your second outfit!

I have that Uniqlo shirt in blue and it's right on top of my list of favourite shirts - I think I like it more than any shirt I own. The material is perfect for hot days and the cut is the right amount of baggy.

I love a fresh white top for hot days too...I actually just put together a post on this, haha.

    1. Thanks Lin! I do agree with you about the Uniqlo shirt, it has easily become my favorite summer staple too. I also bought the sleeveless version for hotter days one of and I'm really happy with both purchases.

  6. You definitely cannot go wrong with a white top and jeans. That's also one of my favourite combinations.
The two looks are lovely. The lace blouse in the first look, in particular, seems really pretty. Very delicate and feminine.

    1. I agree. Sometimes, I feel like being "fashion-forward" and drool over the like of Taylor Tomasi-Hill and fashion editors/celebrities but classics are much more my cup of tea. I think the key is to keep it fresh and add some identity to an otherwise generic look.

  7. Just stumbled upon your blog and read all your entries in one sitting! I really like your approach to clothes. I feel like your style is really put together and classic, but still attainable, which is hard to see with other bloggers. Anyways I love seeing other black bloggers. Keep up the postings!

Because of the Olympics and the arrival of summer weather, at last, I got a bit lazy with blogging lately but a few things are coming up.

  9. i love your lacy top - i've been in the mood myself for a more delicate texture these days. just got a skirt from zara that's quite 'out of character' for my wardrobe, but is going to be SO versatile with my other more tailored pieces :)
