Sock it up!

Between an affection for ankle length pants and everlasting appreciation for flat shoes, ankles and feet get a lot more focus.

Whereas it's not really an issue during the warmer seasons to manage the it looks like I'm bare foot in my shoes but actually I'm wearing socks look with the proper accessories (extra low cut "invisible" socks), things get a bit trickier when temperatures plunge.

Not being Ashley Olsen's long lost twin nor a real fashion(ista) masochist ready and willing to get chillblain for sake of the look no matter how nice it is, my solution was to wait for better days to combine shorter pants hems and low shoes and instead make do with my boots till then.

But thanks to a ride on Paris metro line 1 and above all thanks to that perfectly stylish lady in oversized tweed jacket, bordeaux Goyard "Saint Louis" over the shoulder, slim rolled up cords, visible yet perfectly slouchy enough grey ribbed socks and New Balance, whom in a few glimpses suddenly enlightened me to that obvious solution to rock a cool, comfy and cute look with above the ankle pants: socks.

Since "revelation" (which is quite debatable since it's an old-time recurrent in men's style), I've never put so much dedication and pleasure to shop for such a little piece of clothing. The advantage being that in the realm of fashion, socks are not overly expensive and the possibilities are infinite: from classic to quirky prints and pops of color, cashmere to Heattech. And important detail apparently unbeknownst to me till recently: socks don't only come in black. They also come in grey.

My selection:

    1. Re the sneakers: I know right?! The navy/bordeaux are so retro cute... Agree with you about Uniqlo's socks! However during sales, I stop by Bompard for a pair made of cashmere... So sweet and warm, nothing compares!

  2. Socks are one of my favourite things to buy, and quirky stockings for wearing under my black skirts.
So far this winter I have stuck with classic black, but I do need to go shopping for some fun stripes to wear with my trousers and flat shoes.

    1. Yes I'm getting there too! The more I get older and the more I put a lot of attention to such accessories and details that I would have deemed boring a few years ago. I find that striped socks are so cute and fresh with trousers. But then I love almost anything with stripes! Haha!

  3. The best socks I've found are a cotton blend by ILUX. They do not have a seam across the toe so they are incredibly comfortable. A little hard to find in the usual places, though. I think dark colored socks will always work, just stay away from white =) unless you're running or something of course.

    1. Had never heard of ILUX before but your description makes it seem like they're worth searching for! Even when I'm running I never wear white socks! Haha!
