I used to think that socks had to remain as invisible as possible, useful but nevertheless not destined to be shown. Think footsies, skin matching veiled socks or trousers long enough to fall on the shoes thus blocking any sight of the item.
All that changed when embracing the ankle length pants, rolled up jeans. For a while when temperatures stay mild it's doable with footsies but there inevitably comes a time when just the thought of stepping outside of home with a portion of skin in contact with air is plainly out of question.
Following the lead of a stylish male friend who's got the most amazing collection of socks with various patterns and colors, I got out of my comfort zone, starting with stripes, then colorful stripes. Baby steps.
The result was that I liked it a lot especially with sneakers in an otherwise plain outfit. I will never go overboard on socks but I'm considering adding more color like these red socks seen in Vogue Paris.
Not your traditional Christmas socks but they certainly add a cheery vibe to any plain outfit.
However, you won't see me in that trendy socks in pumps/sandals style anytime soon... I could maybe do clogs... It kind of attracts my Larzac/back to nature inner side! ;))

i love colorful socks, and i definitely rock that look a lot with boots and rolled up jeans. i love printed socks from hansel from basel quite a bit as well as happy socks and bonne maison. strathcona knee highs are also pretty fancy. i am tempted to try the whole pump/sock thing, but i don't really wear pumps much, so probably not going to happen anytime soon!
RépondreSupprimerIt seems like you have quite a range of shopping choices! Here besides pricy brands, the color spectrum available tends to be narrow and very classic for women.
SupprimerI think pumps would be more comfortable worn with socks, I also rarely wear that type of shoes but in my experience my feet tended to "slip" a bit, I bet socks would solve that issue.
I know wearing colorful socks is not for everyone's tastes, it kind of reminds me a bit of "Punky Brewster"! Haha!
RépondreSupprimerAll of the fancy socks hoarders I know are male - but then again a lot of them are in conservative fields (attorneys, finance, etc) so it's probably the only way they can express some flashy style. I had a friend who gave me some pointers once about socks, the most important takeaway for me is this 'hand-linked' toe, where there's no seam and I try to look for them now.

Agree about white socks... I had to google the hand linked toe socks, it's a concept I wasn't aware of and I'll check for seamless toe socks in stores, they must be a lot more comfortable to wear.
